A font is a typeface that has a specific size, weight, and style. This term is mainly used in traditional metal printing. In the modern world “font” is often synonymous with “typeface”, although the two do not necessarily mean the same thing. For example the Bulmer typeface has the fonts “Bulmer roman”, “Bulmer bold”, “Bulmer italic”, etc. — however the word “font” can be applied to each of them as well as to the whole.

Although initially font referred to a fixed shape and size, since the 1990s, the term font generally refers more to dynamic letter shapes or icons that can be enlarged or reduced in size at the time of printing.
